Cecafé promotes decarbonization at the 9th Coffee Dinner & Summit

Through the Ecooar Green Seal, the Council plants trees and offsets the 2.5 tons of GHG emissions of the event

Honoring its pillar of action focused on socio-environmental responsibility, sustainability, and food safety, the Council of Brazilian Coffee Exporters (Cecafé) obtained the “Green Seal” from reforestation startup Ecooar Biodiversity to neutralize the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) during the 9th Coffee Dinner & Summit, on May 25 and 26, in São Paulo (SP).

“The theme of our event is ‘Production growth: its challenges and opportunities in times of ESG’, therefore, nothing could be more logical than aligning our initiatives of socio-environmental governance with the subject to be treated and, mainly, delivering this in the form of a practical example, promoting reforestation, contributing to the mitigation of global warming and demonstrating the engagement of Cecafé and its members with respect for the environment and people, aiming to build a better planet for future generations,” comments Marcos Matos, general director of the entity.

Obtaining the Ecooar Green Seal occurs through the projection made by the company of the carbon emissions generated during the two days of the event. Based on this calculation, Cecafé compensated more than 2.5 tons of CO2 by planting native trees, contributing to the reforestation of Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) on the Santa Emília farm, a coffee producer in Garça, in the Midwest of São Paulo, where the regeneration of the environment and the preservation of spring waters directly and indirectly benefit about one million people in the 62 cities in the region.

The Green Seal obtained by Cecafé has an exclusive QR Code that directs to information about the place where the reforestation was carried out, as well as the quantity and varieties of trees planted (see here), allowing a public on-line audit from anywhere in the world.

The Council’s Social Responsibility and Sustainability manager, Silvia Pizzol, recalls that this action also meets the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN), especially regarding: Climate Change Action (13); Water Life (14); and Land Life (15).

“We will continue engaged in working for the planet to be more and more respectful to the ESG criteria, expressing that the Brazilian coffee industry will remain in the vanguard of quantity, quality and, mainly, sustainability,” he concludes.

COFFEE DINNER & SUMMIT

The event stands out as one of the main global forums of the coffee sector, bringing together, every two years, about one thousand people and leaders from all segments of Brazilian and world coffee growing to promote business prospection, create commercial opportunities, share experiences, and network, bringing together agribusiness players and coffee lovers in a spacious and cozy environment.

Under the theme “Production growth: its challenges and opportunities in times of ESG”, the ninth edition of the Coffee Dinner & Summit aims to promote debate and reflection on the economic, climatic, regulatory, and logistical challenges, and especially on the sustainable initiatives developed by Brazil and other coffee nations, which respect the criteria of socio-environmental governance.
